(Not for people with jobs)
『I read the other reviews that said it had duplicate information as a previous book, but since I didn't have the other book I didn't care and bought it anyway. I was still disappointed after scanning through the meal plans.

The diet plans have a very heavy reliance on smoothies or other types of meals that are not practical for preparing or eating away from home.
This is the plan for you if you eat most of your meals at home or use a blender and major kitchen appliances in the office or at school.

I know you can make a few smoothies at home and pack them in a sack lunch for work, but in a just a few hours they will get stale, melted, separated and not look or taste any good.』

(Good quick recipes)
『This book has a lot of good recipes, but most of them are variations on a few basic recipes. This is not made for someone with a little imagination. It also is full of lots of information already found in the original Abs Diet book, which is good, but repetitive if you already have that book.

Still, the recipes are quick and healthy, a great way to get organized and change your diet.』

(6 minute meals for 6 pack abs)
『I liked this book, but only wish it had more recipes to try. Good ideas and a good base to follow for meals. I don't eat Salmon, but like many books, there are plenty of meals with Salmon or some type of fish. However, the author does include an assortment of meals. Would recommend for a guideline on how to start the diet.』

(too simplistic)
『I found the recipes and guidance to be too simplistic in this little book. The recipes are supposed to be simple, but I almost hesitate to call them recipes. Many of them are the type of concoctions that we create when we "creatively" throw together stuff that is already in the fridge. If you are a real beginner in the kitchen or you need a little creative guidance for basic healthy meals, then this is for you. Those with cooking experience or a passion for food and flavor will probably be better served elsewhere.』

(Not very many new recipes)
『If you buy only one of the Abs Diet books, this isn't a bad one. It does goes into the diet for about a third of the book, so you don't really need the other books as far as that goes. It also has some ideas for menus as well as some exercises you can do at home. I do like the conversion chart he has in the back of the book for overseas readers, as it has not only oven temps and weight conversions, but also pan size conversions. Very useful if you like to collect recipes from other countries.

Most of the recipes are easy to prepare, but a good number of them really should have been written in "basic recipe with variations" format because that's what they are (the smoothies being but one example). Would have made for a much smaller book though, and this is only 6.5 by 6.5" with a lot of margin space to start with.

His overall writing style is somewhat annoying, especially the recipe titles, since often they give the reader no clue as to the ingredients required. Also, why he prefers instant oatmeal to say, rolled oats, is baffling (my guess is that "instant" fit in with his Abs Diet acronym). You can pulverize rolled oats in a blender or spice grinder just as easily.

If you already have any of the other Abs Diet books, check this out of the library first to see if there's enough new info before you buy it.

『I have in the past loved RR and her "stuff"....This poor cook book gave me no SIMPLE and easy directions. I have given the book to my local charity pick up. I hope that someone can use RR information. I find that she has become too "off" hands....and frankly I cannot watch her tv show, as it has become so false......RR u are disappointing so many....get off that pasta box and come back to us..........paulene』

(rileys gammy)
『first..I have alot of rachel rays books and I use this one the most! It is useful for making single meals and one's just for my husband and I. Some recipes I've never heard of but turned out delicious and without having to purchase the entire grocery store to make them! Also included: recipes for a very small dinner party and for a bit larger dinner party. Not to mention recipes for a large family on a huge budget! You can't beat any Rachel Ray cookbook!』

(Too Complicated!)
『I bought this cookbook because I wanted something with recipes for two. Unfortunately, the recipes are too complicated for our simpler tastes and use too many ingredients that take too long to prepare. This would be good for someone who considers cooking an art and that loves to experiment and isn't intimidated by intricate recipes. I ended up selling this to a friend who is more daring than I.』

(Decent cookbook)
『I don't really like to cook so this was a great cookbook for me. It allows flexiability providing recipes for all numbers. I like most of the dishes in here. If you are not sure, try catching her show on the Food network to get an idea of what types of foods she uses and likes to make.』

(Just Another Cookbook)
『I was not impressed with this book at all. If you're watching calories, as most of us are, this is not for you. The recipes are redundant. I have looked at the book twice and have not used anything I saw...too bad for Rachael....this one is a thumbs down...

Don't waste your money or time is my opinion..

『If you’re like Rachael Ray, mealtime is a time to hang out and reconnect with family and friends. That means you could be making a late dinner for you and your sweetie one night and making brunch for your entire family the next day. No matter how many people join the party, Rachael firmly believes thatcooking should be fun, easy–and done in 30 minutes or less.

Transforming recipes for four into recipes for two or eight can be a tricky guessing game. If you use twice the amount of chicken will you have to cook it twice as long? Is it possible to make a satisfying pot of soup for two without having to eat leftovers for a week? What’s the best–and most economical–way to feed a crowd of eight? WithRachael Ray: 2, 4, 6, 8there’s no need to guess, because Rachael has designed right-sized menus for every occasion, with perfect meals for two, four, six, or eight.

For date night you don’t want tons of food, so Rachael’s Croque Madame sandwich with a Strawberry Balsamic Vinaigrette salad and a killer vodka cocktail strike just the right note. For family dinners, double dates, or those who love leftovers, Rachael whips up classic meals for four like Wingless Buffalo Chicken Pizza or Grilled Shrimp with Chorizo Skewers. For poker night with your buddies, Rachael knows exactly which ingredients stretch into a 30-minute meal for six, like Uptown Sweet and Spicy Sausage Hoagies. Throwing a dinner party is a pleasure when you’re armed with stress-free meals for eight like Italian Chicken Pot Pie and Boozy Berries and Biscuits. With complete menus for family dinners as well as easy and impressive meals for entertaining plus lots of super simple desserts that taste like a million, no matter what the occasion, the perfect meal for your crowd is never more 30 minutes away.』

(Fabulous asset for traveling foodies)
『This book, like other books in the Eat Smart series, guides the reader/traveler through the food history, best dishes, and regional favorites of the country. I loved having this while in Morocco, because I had a good idea what to order wherever I went. The book also gives you the phrases you need to both read the menu and order. It's simply an invaluable guide for those who consider food a major part of the adventure of travel.』

(A FIVE-STAR GUIDEBOOK!)
『I've been a fan of Joan Peterson's "Eat Smart" series ever since I discovered "Eat Smart in Turkey" and "Eat Smart in Brazil" in the 1990s. Now Ms. Peterson has come out with a new guide to the foods and foodways of Morocco, a country whose history is reflected in its richly varied cuisine influenced by nomadic Berbers, Arab conquerors, Sephardic Jewish settlers, and French colonialists. As the author states in the Preface, "What better way to get to know a culture than through its cuisine?"

This highly informative book provides an overview of Morocco's history, an in-depth look at the country's national and regional foods, and a selection of Moroccan recipes from appetizers to desserts, with color photographs of many of the dishes. But "Eat Smart in Morocco" is much more than an introduction to the culinary cultures of this fascinating country. It's also a practical guidebook that you'll want to take along on your next trip to Morocco.

One chapter gives helpful phrases (with their pronunciation) for use in restaurants and food markets. An extensive Menu Guide lists menu items alphabetically, with a description of each dish, followed by a Foods&Flavors Guide with a comprehensive list (and explanation) of Moroccan ingredients, spices, kitchen utensils, and cooking terminology. An extensive bibliography and very good index round out this book.

"Eat Smart in Morocco" is an indispensable companion for the intelligent traveler who is interested in that country's foods-and for anyone who wants to know what, and how, to eat in a Moroccan restaurant. Don't go to Morocco without it! Highly recommended. ----- Sharon Hudgins, author of "The Other Side of Russia: A Slice of Life in Siberia and the Russian Far East"』

(Perfect guidebook for a memorable culinary journal)
『Joan Peterson, the culinary mistress of the EAT SMART series, returns to feed our continuing love affair with foreign foods and flavors in her latest book, Eat Smart in Morocco. As much a travel guide as it is a cookbook, Peterson shares her knowledge of the history and cultural significance of native dishes as well as the traditions and secrets of Moroccan cooks. Her culinary tribute to the land and its people should be part of an official welcome packet given to every foreign visitor when they first step on Moroccan soil. As she writes, "What better way to know a culture than through its cuisine." Particularly helpful to travelers are her bilingual menu, and food and flavor guides. Whether you're a novice or experienced traveler, Eat Smart in Morocco is the perfect reference for a memorable culinary journey. --Kimberly Ouhirra, President, Exotica Oils, Inc.』

(Experience a gastronomic journey!)
『"Eat Smart in Morocco" uses significant historical facts to trace the rich culinary treasures of Morocco and its land. Readers can become more familiar with the culture and civilization through this guidebook and delight themselves with recipes from various contributors. The guidebook confirms that we can touch the heart of another culture through the flavors of its food and experience a gastronomic journey.
----Rafih Bengelloun, chef/owner of the Imperial Fez restaurant in Atlanta』

(What a good idea!)
『This book is one of a type I was not familiar with: books for travelers who are also "foodies", that is, people for whom trying the local food is one of their main pleasures while traveling.

This book will let foodies explore Morocco's rich and unique cuisine in thier homes before leaving via descriptions of both the food and its context, and it even provides recipes to try first. Once in Morocco, there is a directory of regional cuisine, and a menu guide with transliterated Arabic names of dishes to help in ordering. I find Moroccan food some of the world's best and most varied, and this book makes it accessible to everyone.

I've traveled and worked in Morocco off and on for the last 35 years, and can attest that the recipes and descriptions are well-researched and accurate. Readers should enjoy this book, as a travel guide or as a 'virtual' trip to Morocco.』
『The compact, portable, and very readable EAT SMART guides to world cuisinethe first of their kindhelp travelers experience the delicious culinary delights of a foreign destination. This popular series contains fascinating food history, insight on regional specialties, great recipes to preview the tastes of the country, useful phrases, handy shopping tips, and two extensive bilingual dictionaries to simplify navigating menu and market. Travelers can now easily determine whats on the menu, whats in the market, whats on their plate, and what they can ask for as they travel.』

(A Winner for Beginners)
『As someone who's followed a low-fat diet for almost 10 years, I'm always looking for new ideas. This book isn't it. However, I remember the struggles we went through when we were just starting out with low-fat eating, and I wish I'd had this book then. I especially liked the fact that it encouraged readers to work toward better eating habits slowly. The concept of adding a couple new habits each week for six weeks looks like a real winner to me. That said, I did get a couple good tips from the book, and I've just loaned my copy to a friend who's pre-diabetic. For someone who'd like to eat better and make the process as painless as possible, this is a good place to start.』

(Wonderful Book)
『Recipes are easy to follow and just as easy to make. Gave it to my husband as a Christmas gift and he loved it, since he does most of the cooking anyway.』

(Indian in 6 gets a one from me. Here's why....)
『I am not the most perfect person in the world but I believe in integrity. If you say that a book is whatever it is, that is what I expect and why I spent my money for it. This book is a dissappointment because the title is misleading...in fact, the whole premise of the book is untruthful. The book raves about the fact that it has no less than 100 recipes that have SIX ingredients or less. The truth is that the vast majority of recipes have 8 ingredients or MORE. I tried very hard to reconcile the title with what I was seeing. I thought to myself, "Well, it's an interesting book...a beautiful book...the recipes are nice..." I also tried to examine the recipes for some reason as to why most of the recipes were more than 6 ingredients. "Maybe she doesn't consider salt an ingredient....maybe she only means spices." No dice.

What I realized is that I'd purchased a book that was deceitfully misguiding me into believing that I would be able to produce Indian dishes in 6 ingredients or less than blatantly defied it's own premise.

As for the actual content, I think the book is nice enough although there are better books with better recipes, more variety of recipes and greater variety of options within each recipe catagory. I already several books on Indian cooking that far exceed the quality, both in design and content, of this book and there are others that I have not yet purchased but reviewed that are better still. Therefore, my only reason for buying it is the reason I will be returning it. I bought Indian in 6 because the book promised 100 or so recipes with 6 ingredients or less. To date, I have only found 5 recipes (although there may be more) that meet this claim and I feel betrayed. So back it goes. Very simply.』

(Nice book for the shelf)
『Ttile of the book is "Indian in 6-100 irrestible recipes that use 6 ingredients or less". Most recipes require more than 6 ingredients and for me living in the northeast -most of the unusual ingredients are impossible to find. Saw author on morning TV news show promoting book and she cooked a delciious vegitarian chickpea dish. I cannot find that recipe in the book. Aside-the book is beautiful and will look nice on my shelf. I will try the vegetarian lentil dishes-they look good.』
『Indian food is often perceived as too complicated and too time consuming to cook at home. But, for the most part, modern home cooking in India is quite simple. In Indian in 6 award-winning food writer Monisha Bharadwaj shows just how easy it is to create delectable Indian food that is authentic while also virtually effortless. Each of Monisha's exciting Indian dishes uses just 6 ingredients or less, with the only store cupboard ingredients required being vegetable oil, salt and ginger-garlic paste. She uses simple and healthy cooking methods to bring the rich flavours of the sub-continent to your table, in a matter of minutes, and Gus Filgate's sumptuous photographs bring the dishes to vibrant life. Try a Creamy Spinach and Coconut Soup or Chilli Tiger Prawns with Sesame Seeds as a starter. For a main course, you could have Creamy Silver Lamb Curry or Tandoori-style Baked Red Chicken accompanied by a Wild Mango and Mustard Seed Salad. And then perhaps finish off with a Rose Lassi.Whether you want a quick lunch or a dinner menu to impress your friends, here are restaurant-quality dishes, simplified for your kitchen.』

(My First Cookbook)
『This was the first cookbook I ever owned. I didn't even know how to cook except for those boxed meals at the grocery store when I got this. It is a wonderful book for starting out or to turn to when your in a hurry.』

(Wouldn't Live Without It !!)
『I can always find the ingredients in my kitchen to make at least one meal from this book, even if I am running low on food around the house. I consider this a must have recipe book.』

(Bachelor's must have cook book)
『I've had this cookbook for 22 years. I met my future wife after impressing her brother and sister inlaw with my cooking abilities.

The recipes do rely heavily on processed food stuffs - canned soup, muffin mixes etc -but that's how the ingredient count is kept down. Some of the recipies, such as company chicken and rice, have become family staples. We've been asked for the recipe many, many times. The recipies do allow customization by the cook based on personal preference - it's easy to remove an ingredient you aren't too fond of and replace it with something else.

I'm sure none of these recipies will ever grace a plate at Buckingham Palace, but we've had great success with them.』

(Hit or miss)
『I was so excited to get this book! To me, making sure you have all the ingredients is the most difficult part about cooking, and I hate seeing recipies with half a page of ingredients listed.

Unfortunately, my husband was not that enamored with most of the recipies. Things like salmon loaf, easy Mexican dish, peachy chicken, and broccoli bake, I was requested to never make again.

On the other hand, the candied chicken and coconut chicken we both liked pretty well. And I think the cookbook was worth it just for "Mike's Babe Ruth Bars." It is my very favorite cookie recipie and I often have people ask me for it.

Like others mentioned, the recipies do rely heavily on processed, pre-packaged foods.

There are a few things.』

(Easy and good)
『This has become a well-used addition to the kitchen. It is great when you come home from work too tired to spend all evening cooking but still want something tasty. The book is easy to read, with large type and clear instructions. There is a banner at the top of the pages telling you what the recipes on that page are for (Salads, Beef, Poultry, etc.), which makes it even easier to navigate. I have cooked a number of these dishes, particularly the ones in the meat and poultry section, and they are consistently good. With more than 500 recipes, there is a wide range from the simple fare like meatloaf and tuna casserole, to company dishes like chicken cordon bleu and baklava (yep, you read that right - baklava with only six ingredients!). If you have a penchant for making your own sauces, marinades and salad dressings, this section of the book is a treat, boasting 18 full pages. I bought another copy as a gift for my aunt, and will definitely order it again for a great housewarming or shower gift. I get appreciative comments from my husband without much effort. Thank you to Ms Johnson and her boys for compiling this little gem.』

(Not just for history buffs)
『This is a way to be exposed to history through the interresting tale of of beverages. The part that "spirits" played in U.S. history had far more of an impact than I realized.』

(Ugh!)
『The author has no knowledge of verbs besides "to be;" consequently, the prose sits like flat beer. The topic had such potential--what a pity that the author doesn't.』

(Not as much fun as you think)
『"6 Glasses" is repetitive and poorly edited. It bears the mark of having been written from material amassed over a long period of time, cobbled together, and sent to press unedited. Thoughtful editing would have reduced the book's length by 25%, while still preserving the essential content. The first section of the book, "Beer", is probably the most repetitive.
There are certainly interesting tidbits in the text, but with no specific references cited, it is difficult to know their veracity.』

(Drink this book right up)
『This book was filled with fun facts about drinks in our livestoday like the origin of the word brandy and why we clink glasses when we make a toasts. I really appreciate when an author can take a dry subject (no pun intended) and animate its history. It even made me appreciate artwork I like to look at because I know what the amphora are for and various objects I might not have understood before fully.』

(Great history)
『This book tells the history of the world as seen thru the origins and spread of six drinks; beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea and coke. Each drink gets several chapters, and the chapters are arranged chronologically. Thru each chapter, the author shows how the combination of human ingenuity and trial-and-error led to the discovery of a certain drink, and how the spread of that drink mirrored social changes. A good example cited by the book is Britian's policy towards China because of tea, and the ensuing opium wars. The book moves briskly, and is good at showing history from multiple points of view. All told, a great book.』
From beer to Coca-Cola, the six drinks that have helped shape human history
Throughout human history, certain drinks have done much more than just quench thirst. As Tom Standage relates with authority and charm, six of them have had a surprisingly pervasive influence on the course of history, becoming the defining drink during a pivotal historical period.

A History of the World in 6 Glassestells the story of humanity from the Stone Age to the 21st century through the lens of beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer was first made in the Fertile Crescent and by 3000 B.C.E. was so important to Mesopotamia and Egypt that it was used to pay wages. In ancient Greece wine became the main export of her vast seaborne trade, helping spread Greek culture abroad. Spirits such as brandy and rum fueled the Age of Exploration, fortifying seamen on long voyages and oiling the pernicious slave trade. Although coffee originated in the Arab world, it stoked revolutionary thought in Europe during the Age of Reason, when coffeehouses became centers of intellectual exchange. And hundreds of years after the Chinese began drinking tea, it became especially popular in Britain, with far-reaching effects on British foreign policy. Finally, though carbonated drinks were invented in 18th-century Europe they became a 20th-century phenomenon, and Coca-Cola in particular is the leading symbol of globalization.

For Tom Standage, each drink is a kind of technology, a catalyst for advancing culture by which he demonstrates the intricate interplay of different civilizations. You may never look at your favorite drink the same way again.
