(not as good as i was hopping)
『I read that it had very good reviews, but there are some mistakes, a couple of things that the writer did't explain at all making reading and exercising in joomla more difficult that it is. I'm even considering of buying another book to fill my gaps in joomla.』

(A must have for new Joomla! users!)
『This is a great book to have for new joomla! users! Especially if you do not know a lot about web design. I actually read the whole book, and still use it for a reference tool. The best way to learn Joomla! is dive in and hands on, but this book will help through. It also gives you ideas on how you want your site to work. I wish Barrie North would make a companion book that deals with more about tweaking/changing your Joomla site's CSS and other joomla extensions and files for a more individual flare.』

(Good Book... but...A Tad Dissapointed)
『When I purchased on the basis that it would allow me to custom design my website. You see Barrie had a tutorial on his website that explained how to custom design Joomla template. I thought it was a good tutorial and the book would have gone more in depth into the aspect of custom design by providing more examples. Alas, the tutorial on customise templates his website is what appears in the book. Had I know that I would not have purchased.

The strength of this book is that it non technical and provides a solid foundation for a newbie. However, if you are interested in designing customised templates just download the tutorial on his site and don't purchase the book.』

(A Great Beginners Book)
『I bought this book while starting my own Joomla site and it helped me figure out a lot of the little stuff I couldn't get figured out to get my site up and running. I would recommend to anyone new to Joomla.』

(Easy to Follow)
『This is an easy to to follow, well written beginners guide to building a Joomla! site. It is up to date and gives concise step by step instructions as well as excellent tips and overviews.』

(Not complete)
『To say it is the best in its category is not saying a lot with what's out there. It is a good book but typical of something so large.

Defining beginner can vary greatly. Having coded in VB6 and VBA (classis ASP) for 15 years or better I would be considered a beginner to .NET. And even tho examples are in C# locating the VB samples on the CD wasn't a problem.

The problem I do have with the book is that there is more emphasis on using controls than actually coding. For instance, I prefer to code all of my database access because I can see it - nothing hidden within the control to deal with when debugging. He also left out a very critical part of coding, error handling and how to really use the web.config file. Some of his samples had a lot of web.config code that was not explained so the samples wouldn't always work without tweaking. Finding what needed tweaking took time.

He does seem to know his stuff and there is a lot there. Some of it is beginning level but like a lot of books that have some beginning info, some important stuff gets left out when transitioning beyond. For example, creating a user login. What he gave was very simple. But how do you make those controls more robust. If you can't, then it's strictly beginner.』

(easy to understand examples and great book.)
『This is good book for intermediate to advanced asp.net developers. First couple of chapters covers controls, master pages, themes, ans user controls. Later, more than 550 pages devoted to data access. I have read couple of other books but no one covers data access this much. Then it covers site navigation, security, state management, Ajax etc. I don't see any errors in this book, all examples are working fine. This book missing couple of things like - webparts, security basics, Personalization. I am giving 5 stars.』

(Some Major Models are left out.)
『I'll preface by saying my comments are on Part 1 of the book.

I feel that Stephen Walther left out a lot of major issues about configuration and models in Part 1.

While the author talks about dynamic compilation in the section called "Understanding Dynamic Compilation", he barely talks about PreCompilation. And he doesn't even touch upon the ASP.Net 1.1 model of compilation which is certainly available in ASP.NET 3.5.

While he covers using code-behind pages and how compilation works with that model. He doesn't mention how compilation works with the single page model.

It's ok to simply certain concepts for one's readers, but don't leave the different code models and compilation models out and they work together in deployment.』

(A MUST have Asp.Net "desktop" reference book)
『The first thing everyone notices about this book is the size (and weight) ... which makes it less mobile than others but a great deal per pound (~$6 a pound of Asp.Net goodness).

For beginners:

I know the book's back cover says it is a book for Intermediate-Advanced, but I honestly think most beginners could use this book as much as anyone else - mainly due to Stephen's writing style. He is very good at walking through the details in an easy to follow manner while showing all the parts and details that help the reader get the complete story. If you are a beginner, I would suggest reading the sections completely and looking at the code on the CD. If you are serious about becoming an Asp.Net expert - read the whole book from cover to cover.

For experienced Asp.Net developers:

I've been using Asp.Net for awhile now (since it came out in 2002) and use this book for my first reference. I have the 2.0 version at work and the 3.5 version at home and keep them both in reach of my desk. The things I like about this book (and why I use it more often than Google for Asp.Net related questions):

1. The Index ROCKS! - whoever put the index together for this book really knew what would be useful and makes finding useful information easy (and I know I can trust faster than Google).

2. The coverage (as in completeness) of Asp.Net is amazing. Sometimes I find myself hitting F1 or looking something up in MSDN only to be disappointed (or not completely satisfied) with the detail and examples to then reach over and grab this book (or run a text search on the source code - which I keep on my dev machines for reference).

3. The samples and source code are practical and useful. For me there is nothing better than complete working code examples for reference when I need to do something similar or understand how things work.

The only problem I have with this book is the weight (~6 pounds) ... but then again, maybe I should just get to the gym more often:)

In summary, if you are serious about writing Asp.Net applications you should get this book. If you don't have time to read it, page through it to get a sense of Stephen's writing style, put the code on your machine and keep it in reach of your desk. Next time you think of Googling some detail about Asp.Net - first check the index of this book ... you might be surprised at how fast you locate a working example and detail of what you were looking for.

『I will give the Photoshop content in this book high marks. Unfortunately, the author also has the ambition to be a comedian and uses this book as a vehicle to spread his message of humor. I see nothing wrong with a "little" fun being placed here and there to break up the boredom that can creep into books like this, but this is waaaaayyyyyy over done, and it's pretty lame humor at that in most cases.

『Check out the beginner ASP.NET 3.5 in C#2008 by Matthew MacDonald
before reading this book if you are new to .NET.
Both books by Matthew MacDonald are awesome.
If only the Java industry has books like Matthew MacDonald's standard.

(If you know this stuff, you don't need it, if you don't, it doesn't help)
『The book assumes you are already a VB or other higher-level language programmer just being retooled. I have 10 years' experience in ColdFusion, so the concepts are similar, but if you don't already know the stuff or are not at all interested in writing console programs, you will spend a lot of time spinning your wheels. Forget looking anything up. I am online right now to find a better book. I also have the ASP.NET in C# book from this series. Same thing.』

(Must Have)
『Apress books are usually must have books for me when it comes to .NET programming, and this book is no suprise the same. I read Matthew MacDonald's other books too, and they are usually in great details. It is not definately one of those learn asp.net in 24 hour book.

It starts with the basics of ASP.Net such as what? why? and then 1 chapter about Visual studio.
The next chapters are all in very much in detail, sometimes more detail then you may need in your web programming tasks such as file managements, but i think it is great to know.

The advanced section (Chapter 27+) might scare you, if you just started asp.net programming, however give yourself 6 months and you will find those chapters very valuable.

One more time: Highy recommended.』

I would recommend this book to all ASP.NET Web Developers.

(Nicely written with the focus of essential understanding)
『I read some important chapters of this book and I really enjoyed reading it. It is a very practical, no-nonsense book that guides the reader's attention to the important concepts and their usage in a very readable way. I read the WCF chapter to gain and understanding and I am glad I did that. Although this book does not cover everything related to every .NET discipline (which of course would need their own book) it covers the needed ground really nice. You can read something about every .NET 3.5 discipline and have an appreciation after reading it.』

(Incomplete content)
『This book is incomplete. For example:

- It does not cover catch exceptions that do not bind the exception to a variable.
- It does not say you can use enumerations with the switch statement.
- It does not show how to use goto in a switch statement (e.g. goto case 1 or goto default).
- The switch statement isn't in the index.

These omissions didn't become apparent until I ran across them on my own. It makes me wonder what else was left out.

Several times I've flipped open this book to reference something, and I just couldn't find it quickly.

This book seems to be geared towards those with OOP familiarity, but it takes forever to get through the basics. I already knew Java, so YMMV.

Also (this didn't lower my rating), if you're looking for the ANSI C book of C#, this ain't it. It's verbose and covers what seems to be most of Microsoft's .NET libraries. If you don't care about Windows Communication/Presentation Foundation, ADO, etc., there's a half pound in this you don't have to lug around. ;)』

(Intermediate Level Book)
『Well, I am still going through this book but feel like made a right choice. This book may be good for an intermediate level programmer who wants to understand the complicated programming concepts rather than learning all ifs and for loops.』

(Exhaustive C# bible.)
『Andrew Troelsen, Pro C# 2008 and the .NET 3.5 Platform (Apress, 2007)

If any book I've read in the past few years defines the term "doorstop", this is it; Troelsen's newly-revised fourth edition of Pro C# 2008weighs in at a hefty 1370 pages. Not the kind of thing most people would read from cover to cover, one thinks, but then, I'm a reviewer, so I kind of have to. And I have to say, it took me quite a while--but not as long as I thought it would.

The good: this is about as close to a C# bible as the world is likely to see. Troelsen covers just about everything you'd want to see in a book of this type, going into as much detail as he can on just about everything (he does gloss over some of the deprecated features, so those maintaining or porting legacy software may want to keep a copy of one of the older editions on hand as well). His chapters on the newer technologies to be found in .NET 3.5, such as Windows Presentation Foundation and Windows Communication Foundation, are especially impressive (and welcome), and are worth the price of admission alone (and, as is to be expected from an Apress book, a hefty price of admission it is; do yourself a favor and check for used copies before shelling out full retail price for this bad boy).

The bad: Troelsen states at the outset that the example software application he's going to build in the book, as is traditional in this sort of thing, is a nonesuch. His reasoning is sound, kind of--books that develop industry-specific applications are, of course, going to annoy everyone who doesn't work in that particular industry, and most others will find the software that results next to useless--but then I'm not quite sure why the solution should be to displease everyone by developing a piece of software that no one will find useless (save some guy running a used car lot in East Armpit, Wisconsin, no doubt). As a result, the application Troelsen develops here will require some mindbending to apply to your situation, no matter what that may be.

Still, it's well worth your time if you're a C# developer. Recommended. ***½

(Wish I bought this book first)
『This is a must read if you'd like to go from hobby developer to a professional developer using C# and the .NET framework. It is a little bit simplistic when covering some topics, then says to consult the .NET 3.5 SDK docs, but overall a great book.』
『The first edition of this book was released at the 2001 Tech Ed conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Since that time, this text has been revised, tweaked, and enhanced to account for the changes found within each release of the .NET platform (1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and now 3.5).

The last version, .NET 3.0, was more of an augmentative release, essentially providing three new APIs: Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow Foundation (WF). As you would expect, coverage of the "W's" has been expanded a great deal in this version of the book from the previous Special Edition text.

Unlike .NET 3.0, .NET 3.5 provides dozens of new C# language features and .NET APIs. This edition of the book will walk you through all of this new material using the same readable approach as was found in previous editions. Rest assured, you'll find detailed coverage of Language Integrated Query (LINQ), the C# 2008 language changes (automatic properties, extension methods, anonymous types, etc.) and the numerous bells and whistles of Visual Studio 2008. What you will learn

  • Everything you need to know - get up to speed with C# 2008 quickly and efficiently.
  • Discover all the new .NET 3.5 features -- Language Integrated Query, anonymous types, extension methods, automatic properties, and more.
  • Get a professional foothold -- targeted to appeal to experienced software professionals, this book gives you the facts you need the way you need to see them.
  • A rock-solid foundation - focuses on everything you need to be a successful .NET 3.5 programmer, not just the new features. Get comfortable with all the core aspects of the platform -- including assemblies, remoting, Windows Forms, Web Forms, ADO.NET, XML web services, and much more.
Who is this book for?

If you're checking out this book for the first time, understand that it targets experienced software professionals and/or students of computer science (so please don't expect three chapters devoted to "for" loops). The mission of this text is to provide you with a rock-solid foundation to the C# 2008 programming language and the core aspects of the .NET platform (OOP, assemblies, file IO, Windows Forms/WPF, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, WCF,WF, etc.). Once you digest the information presented in these 33 chapters, you'll be in a perfect position to apply this knowledge to your specific programming assignments, and you'll be well equipped to explore the .NET universe on your own terms. It starts out very basic, as if I have never seen a photo editing application before; perfect for someone who is technically challenged, like me. Other books start off at some higher level, assumimg I already know the basics, so I am confused before I begin. It does contain many color photos and charts (come on Amazon, don't you think a color Kindle is overdue?). I do want to make a comment here about Amazon, since they do not give me a place to review them like they do with 3rd party vendors (why is that?). The book was advertised as new, but the spine is bent with a slight fold shape to it, as if it was dropped. Perhaps the fact that it and another book in the same oversized box were poorly padded by a few air pillows loosely thrown in the box caused the damage (?). I have found Amazon's packaging to be unsatisfactory since they went "green". Also, there are remnants of adhesive on the upper right corner of the cover where some label has been removed. Finally, there is a long scratch or cut across the front of the covers of BOTH books! I don't know if Amazon did this so I could not return the books as new, or what. In any case, these things do not adversely affect the book for me, but I wouldn't want to give it to a friend as new, or as a gift.』

(Good reading material)
『If there is such a comprehensive book in the J2EE world, J2EE will be less painful.
Even though I prefer J2EE over .NET, I have to admit that this book ramp up the skill of .NET developers faster than any other J2EE books for J2EE developers.

(If you know this stuff, you don't need it, if you don't, it doesn't help)
『The book assumes you are already a VB or other higher-level language programmer just being retooled and that you are ignorant of HTML. I have 10 years of ColdFusion experience but can't look up such things as how to read a cookie or query string or output data from the master page code behind page in the master page itself. I am online right now to find a better book. I also have the C# book from this series. Same thing.』

(Worth the money)
『The book teaches you exactly what it says on the cover. Not only has this book taught me the beginning of Asp.net but it helped me get a job a year later.』

(Excellent book, truly took me from novice to well, aspiring professional)
『It's been 10 years since I last programmed, so this book was a perfect level of introduction to C# without getting so basic as to teach all the OO concepts etc, then on to the architecture of an ASP.NET application, the key classes of .NET and then stepping through each level of building an ASP.NET application with just enough detail. Unlike many technical books I didn't find myself asking how they did something because the author skipped it. At 1000 pages I had to be patient and actually read through the whole thing and do the examples, but that has lead to a decent understanding of not only how to do something, but how it works. Highly recommended.』

(Great Book)
『Simply a *GREAT* book if you have some experience with C# but are new to ASP.NET!!!!』

The most up–to–date and comprehensive introductory ASP.NET book you’ll find on any shelf,Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 in C# 2008guides you through Microsoft’s latest technology for building dynamic web sites. This book will enable you to build dynamic web pages on the fly, and it assumes only the most basic knowledge of C#.

The book provides exhaustive coverage of ASP.NET, guiding you from your first steps right up to the most advanced techniques, such as querying databases from within a web page and tuning your site for optimal performance. Within these pages, you’ll find tips for “best practices” and comprehensive discussions of key database and XML principles you need to know in order to be effective with ASP.NET. The book also emphasizes the invaluable coding techniques ofobject orientationandcode behind, which will start you off on the track to building real–world web sites right from the beginning—rather than just faking it with simplified coding practices.

By the time you’ve finished the book, you will have mastered the core techniques and have all the knowledge you need to begin work as a professional ASP.NET developer.

(Perfect book for your ASP application...)
『I can say I actually read most of this book and in every chapter there was something that was useful and the way it laid it out was perfect. I have used several books from Apress but this one was really full of information and it covers so much on ASP that I want to keep it handy. Advanced ASP programmers will find this book handy as it covers the latest in 3.5 and also Silverlight 2.
The topics covered in this book are great for beginners but it also covers some great topics for the more advanced user. If you are looking into learning more about ASP, this is the book to get. Don't be intimidated by the 1300+ pages because every page will sure talk about something that you could use in an ASP application.』

(Excellent Book on Professional ASP.NET Techniques)
『This third edition of the Pro ASP.NET 3.5 in C# 2008 book is an excellent reference and learning tool focusing on more advanced techniques of using ASP.NET 3.5. The author explains all their topics completely with very good examples.

As a teacher myself, I always try to look for books that not only explain the "techn-jargon" from a technical perspective but also from a learning viewpoint so it can be understood by almost anybody. Of course you need to have a programming background to fully understand this book, but the author doesnt assume much knowledge by the reader apart from the basics.

The topics covered are: Overview of Visual Studio 2008, Web Forms, Sever controls, ASP.NET applications, State Management, Data Controls, DataSet objects, Caching, Linq (new in 3.5), Creating User Controls, Deployment of your web application, XML, Custom Server Controls, Ajax, and much more.

This book is great for either somebody wanting to futher enhance their ASP.NET programming background into more advanced topics OR somebody who needs a great reference book. Because as we all know, there is so much to learn about ASP.NET and .NET in general its imposssible to know everything. This 1300+ page book will go in your library and you will use it again and again.

It is up to date with the latest verion of ASP.NET as well as including Silverlight 2.0 which is gaining popularity as an alternative to Adobe Flash.

The book is worth every penny, so go out and buy a copy today!』

(Patrick)
『This third edition is yet another outstanding textbook in the first author's collection and his writing skills seem to improve with every book. As the contents can be seen at a glance, it remains to say that each topic is, in fact, dealt with in a most comprehensive manner. In order to remove any ambiguity that might remain from any descriptive passage, there are rich examples that accompany each chapter. In fact, it was the superb set of examples for every chapter that were included with Matthew MacDonald's Pro WPF in C# 2008, second edition, that prompted me to buy this book, for which I have no regrets However, it is perhaps advisable to work through Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 in C# 2008, second edition, especially for the database work, before moving on to this book.

If Matthew MacDonald keeps up this standard of writing and presentation, not only for as ASP.NET, but also for WPF and Silverlight, it is going to be very difficult for any other author to do better. Despite the fact that other viewpoints are, and should be, always welcome, I find myself returning to MacDonald's books for helping me reach a more solid understanding.

I would like to conclude with a message to the publishers: the layout and print for the Beginning... book is excellent, if the heavy content is borne in mind. Unfortunately, there seems to have been some downsizing on the font size in the Pro... book that seems to make it disproportionally harder (for me, at least) to read. Perhaps, when better economic times come, the publishers would consider going to two volumes for Pro... books for what, each time, is a huge amount of reading material.

『this game is great. it has one of the best graphics i have ever seen on a video game.』

(Very accurate guide, but game is too easy to need one)
『I got most RE guides, MGS4 and even the old FFVII guide. I go to say this is one of the most accurate guides out there.

This help me saved time and frustration with finding all the items, BSAA emblem, and treasures. All the maps and items found are exactly like the PS3 version of the game. Image of the maps and screenshot are very clear to understand. There are a lot of texts here also. All the weapons grade, level-up, bosses tip and strength are well done. Have a few pages for verse mode also. The layout on the walkthrough is like this. One page (left side) got the map a 50-75 percent of the page. A couple of 1x2 inch screen shoots. The right page is mostly texts and some artwork background and some screenshots also.

The only think I found that isn't in the book is you can knock out the light beam (laser) in the worship area in chapter 4-2 with a couple of hits from the rocket launcher.

Most guides are useful to find all the items and tips, but RE5 can be easily beat by most people without the book, especially with co-op online plays.

(The BEST Guide Around!)
『I was so very impressed with this guide. One of the biggest and best thing they did was not spoil the cut scene's and surprises that were ahead. The art and detail were awesome and everything you needed to know was all in this book.』

(Don't Just Survive the Evil... Conquer It)
『Whenever a Piggyback Interactive guide comes around, you know exactly what to expect. A lot of depth. And not just for those wanting to get through the game... for those wanting to conquer it all. Even better is that the guide could be useful whether you're a veteran of the series or new to it all together. It's an easy guide to navigate and use.

The "How to Play" section might be worth a peak, even for Resident Evil veterans, if only to learn a bit more about cooperative play. It goes into a lot of detail on mechanics old and new. If you mastered Resident Evil 4, however, you might find this section repeats a lot of what you already know. However, if you're new, this is a good place to learn about some of the basics. It covers both the 360 and PS3 versions of the game, so it doesn't matter which version of the game you have.

The walkthrough is more than likely what you picked the guide up for in the first place. It works in a very well organized way. There are a lot of symbols to remember, but over time they'll become second nature to you, and there's only one moment where you have to worry about going higher than a second floor.

What makes the guide well-to-do is how it's designed. On left hand pages, there are quick references called out on the maps, which are very detailed in and of themselves. It's done in a fashion in which A is on the map and then you can find A in a text box and read. Here it might just say something like, "Take down the Majini here..." Most of it is pretty in depth, but these moments don't go into nearly as much detail on how to dispatch your adversaries. It's more designed just to give you an idea of what's coming.

On the right hand pages, however, is where it goes into a lot more depth, calling out all the new enemies whenever you encounter them and giving you a briefing on the tactics that work best to defeat them. There are also much more in depth boss strategies here. It also calls out new weapons and gives you a bit of advice on how to use them. Along those lines there are also call out to the treasures you'll find, and it'll tell you more on how to get them. These tactics are mostly designed for those attempting the game on Veteran mode, but they work just the same for normal as well. Which is another nice thing about the guide. The fact that it covers all difficulty levels instead of just the standard.

In short, the left hand pages (with the maps and such) are designed for clarity and general guidance, while the right hand pages are designed for advanced tips or for what you might want to do if you're incredibly stuck. The guide is well suited to the type of gamer who wants to explore, and the kind who wants to know what's under every nook and cranny. And there is a lot to explore in Resident Evil 5.

After this it goes into the inventory where it'll tell you which weapons are good and to use them. Every weapon is designed in such a way that it has something that might make you want to use it over the others in its class. The guide does its best to recommend what might be the beset to take in its class. However, they leave the decision up to you and show you all the upgrades available for a weapon. It also talks about the grenades and different types of ammo for the Grenade Launcher. For an inventory chapter... it's has quite a bit of info. Along those lines, there's also a section at the back which gives you the tips on the best places to go to get more weapons and gold for those looking to really make the best of what they have in their inventory.

After the inventory, we get into the Bestiary, and are presented with the first of many warnings. That beyond the first turn of the bestiary pages are possible spoilers. The guide will warn you about spoilers three times in all. The walkthrough itself is spoiler free, but it's hard to go into the list of enemies, or the extras without revealing a few things you might want to be kept a secret. Yet the Bestiary is really useful. It helps to get you settled on taking enemies down depending on which difficulty you're on as well. It also gives you tactics for all the enemies, mini-bosses and bosses overall in case you didn't find them in the walkthrough. It can be a little confusing at first with the chart and all the different kinds of numbers, but it helps you get adjusted. Resident Evil 5 has a mechanic where it adjusts how tough enemies are based on not just the difficulty level, but also with how well the player is doing. Piggyback helps you in both cases.

After that, there's the extras chapter. Once again, it warns you of spoilers for those who haven't finished (and it'll also warn you again when you look at the trophies/achievements list). Yet there are a lot of tips, including for the Mercenaries game and more (I wouldn't want to spoil for those who've yet to complete the game, myself). What you might be interested in is that the guide has a separate walkthrough for those attempting a speed run, or attempting to go through the game on professional. These are tips for advanced players who know the game inside out. It's a quick walkthrough that only details what's needed for the best time.

Lastly, there's a lot of high concept art and interviews from developers. Those wondering about the development of Resident Evil 5 might be curious about reading this section.

With all the info in this guide, it can be a lot to swallow. And indeed, it is. But the information is organized in such a way that it's easy to find. If there's something you can't find, though, there's an index at the very back. Even here, the guide has a way of preventing spoilers by highlighting things in Red if it's located in a section that holds potential spoilers.

This is a good guide to get for Resident Evil 5. It covers just about everything and is made with veteran gamers in mind, as well as beginners. There's a lot of info here. It can definitely feel text heavy at times, but it's designed in such a way that you don't have to read every word in order to prepare for what lies ahead on your journey. And with a walkthrough that's free of plot spoilers, you can be content in knowing that you can browse the walkthrough freely and still be kept in question to what happens throughout the game's story, which has a lot in and of itself to swallow.』

(Complete guide to world-building)
『This is a complete guide to world-building. If you are planning on building your own campaign setting, you need this book to help you flesh out cities, landscapes, environment, population, government, etc. The whole first half of the book is devoted to making your world as awesome as possible. The next quarter tells you how to deal with players, as cantankerous as they can be at times, including rule-solving disputes, spur-of-the-moment changes, and how to deal with a player who threatens the stability of your playing group. Lastly, it contains a few prestige classes, and a basic listing of common magic items for use in the campaign. Overall, a very, very useful book for DMs, but I would keep it out of the hands of players.』

(Essential)
『An amazing guide to the world of Dungeons and Dragons. I can't imagine a better tool to immerse yourself in this fantastical world.』

(Must Have Core Rulebook)
『This is one of the three Core Rulebooks in D&D so is necessary for one person in your group to have one (The more the better though). You'll need this book for the basics on Prestige classes, Magic Items, and all the Rewards tables (Treasure and Experience).

Essential to D&D. Need to own.

Also, 4e sucks.
That is all』

(Dugeon master)
『The drawings are a little cartoonish...but still a great book. Now I just have to find some Die Hard D&D players.』

(The best of the 3.5 updates)
『Of the three core rulebooks to receive an update in 2003, the Dungeon Master's Guide serves as the best argument that the 3rd edition needed a revision. The original guide, while containing some useful DMing advice, was poorly laid out and contained very little useful information to people who had experienced role-playing games before (and, for that matter, not enough useful information to people who hadn't). This revision, while far from perfect, is a definite upgrade from the original. The layout is more coherent, the chapter on world-building is specifically quite useful, and a number of useful variant and expanded rules are scattered throughout the book. Here you'll find details of other planes of existence, of new magic items, and of rules for epic-level characters, just for starters. Additionally, there's plenty of good advice for novice and experienced DMs alike, as well as a number of side bars that not only explain why a certain rule is written the way it is, but variants to expand the game beyond its core confines.

Not all of the book is a welcome update, however. The epic-level rules are very limited, and require the use of the Epic Level Handbook to really be useful. The NPCs section has become more generic and therefore less useful to someone who needs a quick character on the fly. Finally, while the manifold of character options discussed are useful, most of the prestige classes that have been added in the revision are dull a flavorless, mostly serving only as a poor fix to the multiclassing rules. In the case of the epic rules and prestige classes, it's a no-harm, no-foul situation; those rules weren't in the original version, and therefore are by default an added perk of the revision. In the case of the NPCs section, the revision actually made things worse, not better.

Nonetheless, the 3.5 revision of the Dungeon Master's Guide makes this version of the guide the best one that we've seen in almost 30 years. Barring the original DM's Guide by Gary Gygax, which is famous as a role-playing bible regardless of the actual edition played, this version of the book provides the most comprehensive breakdown of what it means to be a Dungeon Master and how you can improve your games for everyone. Even if you still hold a grudge against Wizards of the Coast for their poor decision to revise the rules so quickly after the release of a new edition, this version of the Dungeon Master's Guide is such an improvement over the last that it is worth a look.』

『Weave exciting tales of heroism filled with magic and monsters. Within these pages, you’ll discover the tools and options you need to create detailed worlds and dynamic adventures for your players to experience in theDungeons&Dragonsroleplaying game.

The revisedDungeon Master's Guideis an essential rulebook for Dungeon Masters of theD&Dgame. TheDungeon Master's Guidehas been reorganized to be more user friendly. It features information on running a D&D game, adjudicating play, writing adventures, nonplayer characters (including nonplayer character classes), running a campaign, characters, magic items (including intelligent and cursed items, and artifacts), and a dictionary of special abilities and conditions. Changes have been made to the item creation rules and pricing, and prestige classes new to theDungeon Master's Guideare included (over 10 prestige classes). The revision includes expanded advice on how to run a campaign and instructs players on how to take full advantage of the tie-inD&Dminiatures line.
