(The Stress Answer)
『It's an excellent book. It is clear and understandable for the average person and gives everyone hope and the skills to help themselves.』

(Too much technical Mumbo Jumbo)
『I thought that b/c this book was recommended to the public by Dr. Phil that it would be an easy to read source of info for anger management and stress reduction. I was wrong. While the book does offer many very scientific studies proving a whole lot of things, it never got down to clearly explaining the informtion. My husband and I started reading the book together, and switched to another easier to read book. I would not recommend this to any one who is lacking an advanced degree in psychology or psychiatry. As a Family Doc, I was lost!』

(No Magic Pill, But A Useful Guide for Stress Relief)
『I am not a medical doctor, but I've studied medical and scientific findings into the brain's plasticity, and The Stress Answer relates coping strategies based on the latest discoveries into the workings of what's often called "three pounds of infinity." Jeffrey Satinover, Norman Doidge, V. S. Ramachandran, et. al., corroborate what Dr. Lawlis integrates in his chapters on storms of various stresses. He provides 45 days of useful exercises to coping with--and reducing stress. You do not have to follow his schedule to the letter. But I recommend doing one or two exercises daily until you have finished all of them. If you are serious about improving the quality of your life, then you should start at day one and go through the exercises again. This kind of repetition will not be boring; in fact, the more you repeat them, the less anxiety you will feel. I know. I did them. Instead of wasting 60 minutes of your life feeling anxious and depressed, invest that 60 minutes into yourself. Isn't it logical to invest your energy into feeling better instead of feeling blue? Excuse me while I rehearse positive imagery for my next book review.』
The bestselling author ofThe ADD Answer and The IQ Answeroffers a powerful remedy for a universal malady

Dr. Frank Lawlis has helped hundreds of thousands of families cope with learning disorders, attention deficit disorder, and emotional disconnection. Now he takes on the single biggest difficulty that most of us, children and adults, face every day: stress. In the workplace, at school, and in our relationships, the effects of stress can be devastating. Too much stress can cause real physical illness.

Using the latest research on neuroplasticity, Dr. Lawlis redefines stress and shows readers how they can retrain their brain to prevent stress from taking its toll. This clear and practical guide includes action plans and recommendations for specific foods, physical exercises, and mental relaxation techniques to train your brain to combat stress.

The Stress Answeroffers hope to anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed, overscheduled, or overextended. Hundreds of families have flocked to Lawlis’s clinic for stress solutions—now anyone can benefit from his expertise.』

(Disappointing)
『Because I am the editor of the 36th Fighter Group WWII Newsletter I hope to see a little more than I got in this book which is some generally available information with some individual photo collection for each group covered. I think Robert Dorr does a better job of describing the role of 9th Air Force in his coverage of a single group in Hell Hawks.

(Gorgeous 9th Air Force Photo Scrapbook!)
『Though it never received the publicity or historical coverage it deserved, the 9th AF made a great contribution to the Allied victory in Europe. Gregory Pon's 9TH AIR FORCE, AMERICAN TACTICAL AVIATION IN THE ETO 1942-1945 is a long overdue photographic guide to some of the 9th's units, a marvelous combination of fresh, wonderfully reproduced photographs and drop-dead gorgeous artwork. It's a visual treat and well worth the $59.95 price-tag.

First off, 9TH AIR FORCE is NOT a history of the 9th nor is it a comprehensive photo guide to the 9th's men and machines. Rather it is a wonderfully illustrated scrapbook showing vintage b&W and color photos, contemporary shots of reenactors in 9th AF garb, color artwork, memorabilia and history related to various 9th AF units such as the 12th BG, 36th FG, 405th FG, 425th NFS, 386th BG, 926th Engineer Aviation Regiment, 410th BG, 440th TCG, etc. Each chapter lists one or more men who served with that unit, these gentlemen apparently providing some of the photos and historical info.

The illustrations truly make this book. The 405th FG chapter, for example, runs to 38 pages. Contained within those pages are 132 crisp b&w photographs, three color pix of reenactors wearing fighter pilot flight gear and six color profiles of 405th FG Thunderbolts by Nicholas Gohin. Gohin contributed 25 color profiles of P-47s, B-26s, L-5s, C-47s, B-25s and P-61s to the book and his artwork is FANTASTIC!

If you are looking for a superb illustrated guide to the life and times of some 9th AF units, this is your book. The hundreds of photos and artwork found in 9TH AIR FORCE present an unsurpassed look back at one of history's greatest fighting organizations. Six stars for this one, folks! Highly recommended.』

『During the preparation of the Normandy Invasion, the American high command realized soon enough that the 8th Air Force, which was wholly committed to strategic bombing, could not undertake the close support of ground units in this major offensive. The keystone of operation "Overlord" would indeed be mastery of the skies: tactical aviation had to be able to intervene quickly and precisely, and to operate from bases on the Continent.

The heavy bombers, as they were dependent on large and permanent airfields, could not be called upon for such tasks. The concept of on-call tactical air support was therefore paramount in the Overlord plans and the 9th Air Force was transferred to England for this purpose. The hundreds of hitherto unpublished photos copied out from the pilots and crews' albums, and the full-color reconstruction of their flying gear are a unique testimony to the day to day life of 9th Air Force personnel and the missions of combat crews. Let us look at these men's faces, they belong to the Past but we owe them our Freedom.

This book is dedicated to the memory of the airmen and soldiers of the Ninth Air Force who gave their all for the Liberation of Europe.

Besides the great photos there are real people dressed in period garb...200 high quality pages filled with lots of photos, both color and black and white, nice drawings, and figure references, along with personal accounts, I can't think of much more to add...This is an excellent reference book for both the modeler and historian.IPMS, 05/2009』

(Basic workplace manual)
『The coal mine canary was a low-tech but effective early warning device that miners used to detect dangerous poison gases in the mineshafts. Anita Bruzzese performs a similar warning function for the modern workplace. Since 1992, she has written about its various ills, as well as reporting on general workplace topics in her popular, insightful weekly column "On the Job." To develop her book, Bruzzese culled through hundreds of letters she received from workers asking for advice about problems they encounter at work (many of which they create themselves). Bruzzese is a leading authority on all things office-related. getAbstract suggests that she can teach you a lot about what constitutes acceptable - and not so acceptable - workplace behavior. This book is ideal for any employee who wants to know what mistakes to avoid in order to stay in the boss's good graces and to get ahead at work.』

(Kindergarten For Grown Ups)
『You hear with this book, "I wish I'd had this advice 30 years ago." That's the problem with it - this light-weight effort is for kids with their first jobs. The author's observations are so facile as to be insulting to the competent, experienced employee - of any age. The writing style borders on snotty in an attempt to be humorous. Unfortunately, the people buying the book are the managers - like my boss. He's reading each chapter OUT LOUD at weekly department head meetings to people who are all over 40, some close to retirement. This new book has created an culture of paranoia - "is he talking about ME?" - because we can't believe he really thinks he has to tell the executives of his company to not dye their hair purple. I cannot stress to you enough: This book is not for adults but would make a dandy gradutation gift for the kids in your life, provided they don't mind being told they're driving someone crazy.』

(Good for the recent graduate)
『Pretty basic stuff, but nevertheless, it's a good read, perfect for the recent graduate or others who are new to the work force.

(One of the funnest books I've read all year)
『This is Anita Bruzzese's second book (her first was Take This Job and Thrive) and it is one of the funnest I've read all year. On my blog I tend to focus on getting a job (or, as one reader recently wrote, bashing job seekers :p) and don't really go into what you do once you got the job, or how to keep the job. That's where this book comes in.

Anita breaks her book down into five sections, and has a bunch of the "things" that drive bosses crazy under each section.

A few foundational principles that come out of Anita's book include:

Bosses don't hire you to fire you. They want to keep you around. It's a pain to find new employees and always try and make the team as productive as it should be. If you are the right hire they want you around!

You need to make your boss look good. Your boss has a boss. What you do (or don't do) will make him/her look really good or really bad. Your boss wants to look really good!

Don't be a dork, or stupid! A lot of the things in this book are things that *I would never do* ... ! Even though many of them, to me, are "common sense," I think about my past jobs and can't believe how many people violated so many of these 45 things! Just amazing. There really is a need for this book.

Reading a list of the 45 things is okay but Anita makes the case for each point and it's really worth the read. I definitely recommend this to anyone that is just starting their career (yes, even the Gen Y folks :p). Consider leaving a copy on the desk of that coworker who kicked the copy machine (I've seen that, to the point of being scary), or the coworker who thinks that an industry conference is a family vacation (I've seen that way too many times), or the coworker who always seems to get out of certain meetings to get her own work done, or the coworker who doesn't know how to delegate, or the coworker who always seems to be sleepy, or not dress well, or... man, the list goes on and on!

An excellent book, a fun read, and very inexpensive.』

(POWERFUL, EASY AND FUN)
『Anita Bruzzese presents her readers with rare gifts: the tools and the coaching to take control of their own careers. Employees will prosper and bosses will smile wherever "45 Things You Do That Drive Your Boss Crazy" is required reading.

『A veteran career columnist shows employees how to avoid getting bounced out the door.

In colorful letters from outraged managers as well as mystified employees who can't seem to figure out why they're not getting ahead, career columnist Anita Bruzzese gets an inside view on the types of behavior bosses love and reward- and all the unspoken things, large and small, that they can't stand.

In this engaging and much-needed book, she reveals the most common complaints from bosses about what their employees are doing wrong-from copying the wrong people on e-mail to kicking the soda machine in a moment of rage to blogging about their jobs-and offers advice on how to shape up and work right.』

(Best cube method there is.)
『If you want to be able to impress people by being able to finish a cube, buy this book. You'll easily learn how to conquer the cube in less than 5 minutes every time. My average is about three and a half minutes, and i only do it to impress people. If you learn more of the moves, you actually can finish it in 45 seconds, it's not just a sales pitch, it's possible. This book will teach you how to complete a cube, however, it won't tell you the reasoning. Basically it's a system of moves that work extremely well. I would suggest this book to anyone, especially advanced cubers. You will be able to do the cube faster this way than almost any other way. The author holds/held the world record at less than 20 seconds.』

(High marks from Glantz....)
『Albert Seaton's "Russo-German War 1941-45" is a bit dated perhaps, but has withstood the test of time, and in spite of it's detractors is still one of the best overall accounts of the Soviet-German conflict to date. David Glantz, when asked in a 1998 interview whose works other than his own would he recommend on the Soviet-German war, gave Colonel Seaton's book very high marks, calling it the equal of Ziemke's two volume set "Moscow to Stalingrad" and "Stalingrad to Berlin", and giving higher accolades only to John Erickson's two books "Road to Stalingrad" and "Road to Berlin". Glantz is considered by most professional historians to be the preeminent author and historian on the Great Patriotic War, and his opinion alone on Seaton's book was reason enough for me to acquire it, and it has proven to be a wise choice indeed. Highly recommended.』

(Russo German War, 1941-45)
『Very well written book that goes into great details about the strategies of the war on the Eastern Front. The author does a very good job of detailing what both sides were doing and the reasoning behind their strategies. Found it an excellent read for anyone interested in that part of World War II history.』

(Wonderful Book)
『This is military history at its finest, a brilliant narrative of the German war in the East. Yes, it is told mainly from the German point of view but nothing that has come out from the new school of pro-Communist studies has invalidated what is written here. It is entertaining, enlightening, and a forthright study of the clash between the two greatest tyrannies of of the 20th century.』

(An adequate overview)
『if you have but a passing fancy of war on the eastern front and don't have the time to pore over the vast literary material available on it , then this is an able primer on a subject matter that is epic in proportions .

the book employs rather broad brush strokes to paint its picture of what is essentially several theatres rolled into one front . not as easy a task as one would imagine since each theatre of operations unfurled itself at a frightening gallop , often simultaneously with other theatres . you will at best glean an overall chessboard view as each little piece shifted back&forth .

i doubt the author meant the book as an omnibus of the eastern front . it reads more like a well thought out , sufficiently researched and ably written academic treatise . some effort has been put into looking at the men and materiel aspect and this is where some reviewers have taken issue . i don't think the book has any pro-nazi leanings nor concludes that the russians won mainly because of its massive surfeit in manpower. it does seem to say that the wehrmacht , while grossly outnumbered&outgunned in the later stages , resisted for as long as it did due in no small part to better tactics , training and more importantly that indefinable factor variously termed as morale , chutzpah etc . the russian's overwhelming manpower resources is named as only one of many factors that ensured its victory . there was adequate mention of the russians improving tactics and materiel ( all made possible by the timely mobilization of its industrial base and lend lease program ) . certainly , tactical mistakes by the wehrmacht were not glossed over and indeed , seaton makes some clever and interesting "what if" speculations from these .

if you are looking for the human aspect of war , there are other better books . if you are looking for a tactical/strategic appraisal right down to small unit action and plenty of maps with arrows pointing this way&that , there are other better books . if , on the other hand , you are planning to appear very knowledgable and conversant about the subject at the next company dinner , then get that credit card ready .』

(extremely biased)
『This book is horribly biased against Russian side. If you believe what the author wanted to say, Russian won the war just because of the aids from United States! Russian soldiers were always stupid, druken, and German soldiers were brave, smart, skilled. Also it metioned little of the atrocity and mass murder by German army and SS in occupied Russia, while wrote a lot about the same thing Russian amy did on German soil. Not recommended.』
『Col. Seaton's classic study remains the best single-volume work on this crucial theater of World War II.』

(A visual history of pop music)
『45 RPM: A Visual History of the Seven-Inch Record celebrates a often overlooked, yet vital form of art, that of the seven inch sleeve. Not only are there more than 200 pictures display in this book, but an excellent history detailing the rise and fall of this format.

There are basically five main chapters starting with the 50's all the way to the 90's. Each chapter is preceded by a written piece authored by different individuals, ranging from a record collector, renown sleeve artists, a music journalist and a music critic. Each provides thoughful, authorative, and interesting insights into the period of time they are introducing.

The real meat is the pictures, and there are a lot of them. Some have complained that some of the pictures are of poor quality, with wear and age showing, but I felt that was part of the appeal of the book. To me, the use of sometimes worn sleeves created a natural representation of what someone's record collection might look like...I sort of felt like I was looking through a friend's record collection, or browsing through a vintage record store, rather than a book of reproduced sleeves. The artwork contained within is beautiful, thought provoking, outrageous, even shocking, but always entertaining.』

(A stunningly visual survey of 7-inch 45 album sleeves)
『45 RPM offers a stunningly visual survey of 7-inch 45 album sleeves. The chronological arrangement features over 200 albums from all genres of music, chosen for the innovative and appealing designs. Students of design will find 45 RPM draws some important links between the art and music worlds and those with a special nostaligia for the heyday of the 45 will delight in this visually impressive compendium.』

(Shoddy haphazard compilation with little to recommend it)
『Unfortunately, the first book to concentrate on 45 rpm Picture Sleeve art is a real disaster. It offers a random assortment of capriciously selected picture sleeves arranged by decade but with little other thought applied. It appears that the records included happened to be in the editor's collection the day they were photographed. This is a just a quickie nostalgia marketing device. It doesn't present a cohesive, coherent portrait of graphic design. It doesn't do record collectors any service, either. PLUS, many of the images are of poor quality sleeves, with bad ring wear, bent corners, writing, rips, etc. There's no excuse for not finding better condition copies of most of the very common items in this book. Obviously no one knowledgeable about records was consulted for this book. Expect it on the discount shelves and remaindered quite soon.』

(No adaptor required)
『There have been quite a few "album cover" collections assembled and published, but to my knowledge this is the first volume dedicated exclusively to the art of the 7" record jacket. If you are already scoffing at the use of the term "art", be advised that this collection includes original works by Pablo Picasso (no slouch, you know), Salvadore Dali and Keith Haring! As you browse through the decades, you realize that apart from establishing the 45 sleeve as a valid form of modern art, the sequentially arranged portfolio serves as a fascinating visual montage of the development of pop music, from pre-Elvis to post-punk. Informative, engaging guest essays by artists and music sleeve designers rounds off this very worthwhile package. Music geeks will want this on thier coffee table (if there's room!)』

(A Fascinating and Engaging Book)
『This is a engaging and attractive book. The story of how the 45 developed is what made it so interesting to me. As the introduction points out:-

"The decades-long success of the 45-rpm single belies a turbulent history. In its infancy, the small disc was at the center of a fierce battle, a fight brimming with jealousy, greed and caustic recriminations. The culmination saw two rival record companies emerge victorious, with the fallout of their erstwhile battle etched deeply into the vinyl landscape of twentieth-century pop music culture."

The introduction places the battle between Columbia (who had perfected the LP in 1948 and RCA (who introduced the 45 in 1949) in historical context. There was much here that was news to me. The initial 45s were issued using a colour coded system: red for classical, midnight blue for light classics, green for country-western, yellow for children's music, sky blue for international, and cerise (orange) for R&B. Traditional black wax was kept for money-spinning pop. By 1952 all RCA records were black, apart from special promotional pressings.

Alongside the fascinating facts what makes the book attractive is the reproduction of covers. Chosen for their inventive design these are organised chronologically. A specialist introduces each decade in that period. There are over 200 designs - a treasure and source of ideas for anyone interested in design. For those who remember buying their first singles it also acts as a trigger to memory. It also makes it clear that single and album covers were one of the most important features of a genuine mass art.』
『Singles, 45s, 7-inchers-they have many names, but come in only one package: a square of folded cardboard with a miniature poster on either side. The gold standard of Top 40 playlists for some four decades after their introduction in 1949, these small albums have long been the favorites of DJs and collectors, who prize them for their genius of small-scale graphic design.

45 RPM is the first ever collection of 7-inch sleeves. Organized chronologically, it juxtaposes more than 200 albums, from all genres of music, chosen for their inventive design. It includes albums by such legendary artists as Paul Anka, the Beatles, the Boston Pops, the Clash, Donovan, Dizzy Gillespie, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dean Martin, Curtis Mayfield, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, the Ramones, REM, the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols, Frank Sinatra, Talking Heads, and many others.

Music historian Chuck Granata provides a general introduction to the history of the 45, its place in the music business, and the designers who created the covers.

Each decade of design is introduced by a specialist in that period: Eric Kohler on the 1950s, Spencer Drate on the 1960s, Roger Dean (designer of the acclaimed albums for the band Yes) on the 1970s, Bob Grossweiner on the 1980s, and Art Chantry on the 1990s and contemporary design.』

Covers just about everything except how to install and configuure RRAS to replace RAS. Apart from that it gives you a solid fundation on which to build your SBS expertise. Note Microsoft posted an errata on their Web site.』

(I wouldn't recommend this book..)
『I purchased this book to be used as a reference book. I already had our SBS up and running (and even if I didn't, I don't think this book would have helped too much). The book goes on and on about the features of Small Business Server and how easy it is for the administrator to set up and maintain (the book does this for at least a hundred pages). I believe knowing about all of the features are important, but the book lacks in not showing the reader how to troubleshoot and inplement most of them. Some of the features that I was trying to implement were advanced but not out of the ordinary. This book didn't halp me at all.

I have read many text books in my days. I felt that this book was the worst purchase I have made in a long time. This book wouldn't be that bad if the reader was never going to set up the server, but wanted to know what the server could do.』

The coverage is goal-oriented: the authors explain how to get a Small Business Server system hooked into a point-to-point tunneling protocol (PPTP) network, how to connect to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) by a variety of means, and how to set up a Proxy Server 2 firewall, among other things. The text runs heavily to steps and screen shots, so you can follow along on a machine easily.--David Wall

(A good history account of the battle for Saipan)
『Overall, this is a good book. It starts out with Oba and many men from his town being shipped off to war. It pretty much ends at his surrender.
Oba: The Last Samurai is a good book because it goes into detail and tells about many factors. It also tells about seemingly insignificant human reactions rarely touched upon in historical accounts, such as Sakae Oba's emotions and what he felt during the whole time he lived in the hills. However, I agree with the professional review. It ends too soon and abruptly. It leaves readers wanting to know what happened to him after the war. Personally, I believe that more information on the individuals involved in this whole battle would be welcome, as well, such as some background on Horiuchi, some of the Americans, and others, but that's just me.』

(An insightful look into the mind of a Japanese soldier)
『An insightful look into the mind of a Japanese soldier. Oba and 300 others eluded capture for over a year on the small island of Saipan occupied by the Americans. The book touches on the many levels and degrees of victory. Both, on a personal, human level and on a militaristic level.』

『My sister-in-law uses this book each Summer with my nephews and they love it. She has to hide the books until Summer, so they don't work ahead!』

(Not what I expected)
『This is a good book but don't be fooled by the addition of "for young Christians" at the end of the title. This is the same book as Summer Bridge Activities except the page numbers are in an ark graphic instead of a star like the other book. There is a Vacation Bible Camp section at the end of the book but otherwise, it is just regular writing, math and other activities to keep up your child's skills over the summer. I bought both books because I had hoped for daily devotions or daily Christian activities in the "for Young Christians" version but I was disappointed. It's a good resource, just be sure you know what it is and don't misunderstand what you are actually getting.

『Summer Bridge Activities for Young Christians is a special edition of the best-selling workbook series Summer Bridge Activities.

It includes award-winning educational content designed to help children move confidently between grades by reviewing and previewing basic skills in reading, writing, math, and language arts. Plus, SBAYC adds original content to reinforce and promote Christian values, including reading lists, suggestions on character development, daily devotionals, and a Vacation Bible Camp bonus section that focuses on heroes from the Bible.』
