This is a wonderful, inspiring book on how to love your family and help them become great people. There aren't many books out there this honest with great tips and recipies as well as biblical principles for raising any family, not just big ones. Can't recommend this book enough if you need some encouragement with raising your family or just want to read about a good family who loves God.』
(Great book!) 『I really enjoyed the book. These are very honest people. There are some good tips for all people with children. Also, it is amazing how far one can come while only spending what one has. Most people are not willing to wait until they can actually afford what they purchase. I found it inspiring.』
(Interesting, easy read.) 『While I am, admittedly, not a television watcher, I have seen one or two of the shows about the Duggar family. They fascinate me. So, when I saw that this book was available, I picked it up at the library.
Jim-Bob and Michelle Duggar are an Arkansas couple with 18 children. Their oldest is 20 and recently married, and the youngest is an infant. They share their story: how they each grew up, how they met and fell in love and how they came to have so many children. They also share their financial history: how and why they made the decisions they made and how those decisions came to affect who they are today. How they came to be on the Discovery Channel and how they built their home is also documented.
After their first son was born, Michelle went on birth control pills. When she had a miscarriage, their doctor said that it was likely because of the birth control. They decided, then, that they wouldn't dictate how many children they had, but that they would let God decide.
They home school with a Christian-based curriculum. The book shares their ideas for raising and disciplining children, as well as managing a large family. I found many of the ideas interesting and sound. I admire them for the way they do everything with a God-based foundation. I don't understand their "Fundamental Christian" faith. Regular church attendance doesn't seem to be a part of it, and they admit to "using Old Testament teachings even though as New Testament Christians they don't apply". I don't understand that selective Christianity.
In the interviews and excerpts from the show that I've seen, Michelle is very sweet. I don't think she ever loses her temper. I only have two children and I have never managed that calm sweetness. I do admire the fact that they honestly seem like a happy, healthy, well-adjusted family. Sprinkled throughout the book are favorite family recipes as well as email questions they've received and their, or sometimes their children's answers. There is also an extensive reference section.
Overall, an interesting, easy read.』
(Malnourishment) 『They feed these kids WAX! The recipes are horrifying. Those kids are malnourished based on the meals in this book. Horrible』
(A family of extremes) 『The Duggars are a family of extremes. The book seemed rather narrow in scope, somewhat redundant, while at the same time failing to answer some of the questions it raises (such as how they handle birthdays). The quotes from the children seemed canned and heavily coached, not like anything children would actually say. And for as much as Michelle touted home-schooling, she failed to mention whether she uses an accredited curriculum, which can affect whether students earn a high school diploma or just a GED, which can limit college options.
It's great that the Duggars want to raise God-fearing children and teach them responsibility. But there's a difference between teaching your daughters to "help" around the house and dumping most of the cooking, cleaning and child-care tasks on them. The girls even have to help the others with their school work and music lessons. Michelle says these tasks are preparing the older children for adulthood. Interestingly, Michelle says little about the boys' responsibilities at home. It's clear that the girls do nearly all the work and don't get paid. Michelle and Jim Bob don't pay their kids for chores, not even when those chores have become full-time jobs. The Duggars SAY they want their girls to have job skills and pursue their interests, though they never mention any examples of them actually doing that. Three of the girls have finished home school. Do they have jobs or go to college? Have these girls ever even gone to an amusement park with friends their own age instead of with little kids they have to tote around on their hips all day? Of course not. Their mother depends on their help all day every day. And Jim Bob is too cheap to hire help while there is free labor at home.
And speaking of cheap, Jim Bob is the cheapest of cheap. It's great to buy used things and avoid debt. But this man never pays fair-market value for anything, though he likes to turn around and sell things for twice what he paid. And when he built his home, Jim Bob even tried to get his children to help do skilled labor that he eventually had to hire licensed contractors to do. Also, the Duggars proudly point to all of the "precious" people who bless them with freebies. These people probably just feel sorry for the kids. Oldest son Joshua, and his bride, Anna, proudly told of the free wedding reception they sought and received from members of Anna's rural church. Unbelievable!
I just hope that now that the Duggars have a TV contract and book royalties, they'll use the extra income and the "servant's heart" they keep talking about to return some of these "blessings." They can start by at least doubling the pay of the "precious widow" who has for years given the Duggar kids half-price music lessons.
』 『The Duggars: 20 and Counting!is a behind-the-scenes look at the supersize family that fascinates millions of television viewers around the world. From Idaho to Istanbul, people want to know how Arkansas parents Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar efficiently and lovingly manage seventeen (soon to be eighteen) happy, homeschooled children without going into debt -- or losing their minds!
This, the Duggars' first book, is an entertaining and enlightening collection of stories, photos, recipes, tips, traditions, and practical ideas designed to answer the questions of the curious, such as:
- Why do you have so many children?
- How do you provide for your family financially?
- How do you handle mealtimes? Transportation? Laundry? Birthdays?
- How are your children so well behaved?
- Why do all your children have names that begin with J?
Since their first documentary broke viewership records on the Discovery Health Channel, the Duggars have appeared in American and international news media, sharing their rock-solid faith and their overriding belief that "children are a blessing from God." In these pages, Jim Bob and Michelle share their story, beginning with their own childhoods. They reveal how their growing-up years shaped their philosophy of parenting. It continues with tales of their big, busy family, whose televised documentaries and frequent appearances in news shows and newspapers have created an international following.
The Duggars share, with humility and humor, the family routines and guidelines they've learned through biblical study and trial and error -- ideas that can help make your home a place of peace, love, and support:
- Financial lessons for debt-free living
- Organizing systems for a clutter-free home
- Homeschooling methods and schedules
- Training tips for little ones
- Relationship builders for older children
- Favorite Duggar family resources
ReadingThe Duggars: 20 and Counting!is like visiting this big, busy family right in their home: fascinating, inspiring -- and fun.』

(ADD - the 20 hour solution) 『This is an excellent book - it is more focussed on a lay-person's introduction to neurofeedback treatments for ADHD, great for parents. It is not really technical enough for a practitioner or someone wanting to learn more about the clinical application of neurofeedback.
A large section at the back of the book is dedicated to an index of worldwide practitioners who can treat ADHD with this drug-free approach』
(A Neurotherapist's Review) 『As a neurofeedback clinician, I have given this book to parents when they are considering brain-training as an option for their child. I have to say that I'm not wild about the title, as it suggests that in less than a day, the ADD will be gone, instead of it being 40 sessions at a half-hour each. The book is a simple, quick read and does a good job of explaining ADD/ADHD and sympathizing with parents who are trying their best to cope with a child who exhibits some of the symptoms inherent in the disorder. It doesn't go into any detail on the development or mechanisms behind neurofeedback, however, and is kind of showy and overly-excitable (too many exclamation marks) about how great training is. Don't get me wrong - I know it's great and I know it works, but there's just something about the book that seems to be over-selling the technique in a hokey way - like their on the home shopping network or something. I find myself more often referring clients to read "A Symphony in the Brain" or one of Daniel Amen's books instead, or else forewarning them that this book is a bit over-the-top excited about neurofeedback.』
(There is hope) 『Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (11/06)
If you've ever dealt with an ADD/HD child you know the frustration of a child fidgeting, disrupting others and needing constant supervision. If you are that frustrated, just imagine the frustration of the child. The authors have offered us a clear and concise look at ADD/HD. They have offered us an option that does not include medication.
Matthew's parents and teachers are at their wits end. They sincerely want to help Matthew but don't know how. "This book is about helping kids like Matthew: ADD/ADHD children who possess the potential to succeed, but who chronically function below their abilities because they cannot regulate themselves. `ADD: The 20-Hour Solution' describes and examines a revolutionary hi-tech methodology called EEG biofeedback (also called neurofeedback) that has unequivocally demonstrated its efficacy in helping chronically inattentive, distractible, impulsive, and hyperactive children regulate themselves."
"The pluses of EEG biofeedback training in treating ADD/ADHD children are extensive. This quick and painless treatment:
- Provides a viable alternative to psychotropic medication - Trains children to self-regulate naturally and safely - Trains children to adjust automatically to changing demands and conditions - Emancipates children from continually professional supervision - Creates a synergistic effect that can help other treatments work more effectively - Permits parents to become involved directly in the treatment process"
Steinberg and Othmer discuss ADD/ADHD in terms that a layman can understand. Parents and teachers will be wondering why this book wasn't written years ago. The authors propose that ADD should stand for Arousal Disregulation Disorder. They made an excellent case for their opinion. In detail they discuss Matthew, a child that has ADD/ADHD. I found myself sympathizing with Matthew; he cannot control his fidgets and distractions. He soon becomes labeled as trouble and that label follows him from year to year. "Matthew had trouble staying in his seat and keeping his hands to himself. Note that he was `verbally exuberant when others wanted him to be quiet, and ... withdrawn and often clueless when people demanded answers...' Matthew was simply lost in an eternal maze of jumbled, intense feelings, sporadic mood shifts, changes in energy level and focus, and incomplete thoughts. These are hallmark signs of disregulation."
This book is well written and documented. As I stated previously it is written in terms that laymen can understand. I highly recommend this book to teachers, parents, grandparents and all who deal with children with ADD/ADHD. I believe "ADD: The 20-Hour Solution" is the answer for many children.』
(Only a new, more effective way.) 『I think that the person that wrote the last review does not know nothing about neurofeedback. Neurofeedback is a self-regulation work. In other words, it does the same thing that a psychoterapic aproach does, but faster.Only this!!!』 『If you’re frustrated by Attention Deficit Disorder and you want a better, longer-lasting solution than drugs, this is the book for you! ADD: The 20-Hour Solution explains how EEG biofeedback (neurofeedback) addresses the underlying problem and characteristics of ADD and ADHD, so that symptoms resolve and tangible improvement results. This book describes the method by which we can improve the brain’s ability to pay attention and regulate its behavior. It explains the self-healing capacities of the human brain and how it can learn or re-learn the self-regulatory mechanisms that are basic to its normal design and function. In this book you will learn:
•What ADD really is and how the brain maintains self-regulation •How and why EEG biofeedback (neurofeedback) helps people with ADD •What parents can do to get their child on-track to healthy adjustment and development •How to talk to doctors, therapists, teachers, and others about ADD. •Good assessment procedures and how they contribute to effective treatment •How self-control, personal choice, and responsibility for one’s behavior relate to scientific principles of brain functioning •How to find appropriate resources and get started with neurotherapy』

(Affirming and Educational/Clues for Those Without) 『I am a clinical oncology massage therapist in a cancer center, but more importantly, I was caregiver to my first wife, whom I lost to breast cancer many years ago. The journey of survivorship can be a lonely and isolating for many reasons, not the least of which is the inability of others to understand, through no fault of their own. Unless one has been through the trauma of a life theatening illness, there is not a frame of reference one can relate to. It is beyond comprehension. A common thought expressed when I relate to survivors is that others "Don't get it." and that you don't have the energy or time to explain it to them. This book, "Help Me Live" helps to accomplish this burdensome task. It provides insight into the frightful, confusing, exhausting journey of survivorship. It gives others a "clue". I was somewhat amused at a reviewers comments about contradictory ideas in the book. Exactly! Welcome to the world of survivorship. This can be different people with different responses or it can be one person on a different day. It can change that quickly. This is part of what's "normal" now. I use this book in my training of other massage therapist who have chosen to work with cancer patients and recommend it to all caregivers who will be working with cancer patients. I also recommed it to survivors as an affirmation of their personal experiences. All too often survivors internalize their feelings thinking the fear, the confusion, the turmoil is some sort of personal issue or failure, especially since many they try to share it with don't understand. Many find solace in recognition that they are not alone in their thoughts and feelings. I have them read it first then hand it to a caregiver so they might learn. I believe in this book. It's a wonderful work and thank you Lori for putting it together.
BTW- A survivor is defined as anyone from the first day of diagnosis.』
(great news for cancer friends) 『Ms. Hope has scored a direct hit with what a cancer survivor wants you to know. She has a unique talent to see things from a different perspective. As she is herself a cancer survivor she uses humor and anecdotes to say what needs to said』
(Much More Than 20 Things...) 『"20 Things People with Cancer Want You to Know" is about communicating with people with cancer. Those who are healthy must learn how to take the lead when interacting with those who have or have had cancer. Author Lori Hope knows it is impossible to empathize with cancer patients and survivors when you have not had it yourself. It is her hope that this book will serve as food for thought, providing stories and examples of words and deeds that have helped and also those which have harmed. Topics include "I need to feel hope" to "My moods change day to day; please forgive me if I snap at you."
Author Hope understood cancer with years as a medical reporter, documentary producer, and caregiver. With this background, she came to understand the importance of how to ask questions. She has used this skill in creating "20 Things" with interviews with patients, caregivers, psychotherapists, counselors, social workers, researchers and doctors.
More importantly, the book is laced with her own experience, having been diagnosed and treated for lung cancer. "Though I knew my friends and family wanted to help - and most did - some unwittingly said and did things that did not make me feel better."
This highly readable book is descriptive not prescriptive. The author wanted to avoid prescribing specific words or behaviors as patients react individually, but rather, to open a world of possibilities, giving us pause for thought. "I want to describe what helps and hurts without making friends and loved ones feel guilty about things they may have said or done in the past, and without prescribing exact words or actions for the future."
Besides the "20 Things," the author's afterword is filled with extensive information geared to specific issues: stage of treatment - from diagnosis to after treatment; various cancer types; the workplace; depression: gender and age; end of life issues; and "people of faith."
Other sections at the end include: * To doctors and health providers * An additional list of 21 more things to know * 16 fabulous things people did and said to cancer patients * 12 outrageous or awful things said to people with cancer * 26 common phrases or words that sting * 22 things most people with cancer like and want to hear
While this book was written to help us communicate with those facing cancer, I found this book to be a useful reminder for all communications since it is a guide on how to communicate more clearly, respectfully, and lovingly.
Listen, listen and listen. By watching and listening, one can learn what a person really wants and needs. "That's what the book is about. All want to be cared for and to feel understood and respected."
』
(Good Inspirational Books) 『Lori Hope knows her subject matter well. I purchased numerous copies to pass on to friends.』 『When we hear that someone close to us has been diagnosed with cancer, we want nothing more than to comfort them with words of hope, support, and love. But sometimes we don’t know what to say or do, and don’t feel comfortable asking. With sensitive insights and thoughtful anecdotes, HELP ME LIVE provides a personal yet thoroughly researched account of words and actions that are most helpful. Based on the author’s own experiences with cancer, as well as interviews and surveys with many others who have had this disease, each chapter tells intimate stories about one of the 20 most important messages people with cancer want to convey, such as "I need to forget—and laugh," "Asking my permission can spare me pain," "I want you to understand if I don’t call you back or see you," and "I want compassion, not pity; comfort, not advice." You’ll learn that communicating effectively doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a "right thing" to say or do, but that you can achieve the desired result: to make those who are ill feel better. In candid and beautifullydetailed prose, HELP ME LIVE will help you find the words or gestures to show how much you care.』

(Beyond what I expected!) 『I say this is beyond what I expected... I say that because I don't have kids, I'm not married, but I am dear friends with Karyn Williams so I had to get this book. I did not expect that it would touch me in the way it did because I expected this to be a read for fathers, daughters, etc. I was wrong! This book is a must read. It's fantastic. Pat and Karyn have done a terrific job outlining the life lessons and "takeaways" and it is something that can touch the heart of every reader. I am going online to buy a second book to give to my brother - who is a father - because I think he'll really enjoy it. And I enjoyed it too much to just give my book away!

(WOW -- THIS IS A MUST READ!!) 『This book should be required reading for EVERY parent and child. Pat&Karyn Williams have written a timeless collection of some of the most important lessons in life. Raising my children, I often wondered if they were really learning anything from me. Karyn is living proof that our kids ARE watching us and learning from us even when we don't think we're getting through. I have bought a copy of this book for each of my children, and pray that they will take to heart the wisdom Karyn has passed on. The book is written in such a conversational and reader-friendly style that you'll find you won't be able to put it down. Also, if you haven't already, you have GOT to hear the companion song, "Taking You With Me." It is absolutely amazing....and will bring you to tears. The best way to find it is on Karyn's website, www.myspace.com/karynwilliams.』
(Ugh) 『Never. Ever. Do. This. To. Your. Children. Depending how severe the "takeaway" is they will never trust or love you again, maybe never trust or love anyone again. I know people like this and have had it happen to me - some people have this kind of cruelty done to them from birth, manipulating and lying to little children for religious causes or political whatever.... People who do this kind of thing are vile beyond words. Their children will copy them. To give something and then "take it away" is not a gift in the first place. That will be the first thing the child learns. Lying and cruelty is normal for adults. They will also learn that "morality" is connected to cruelty and will want to fly away, far away from any system or people that taught them that. Get away from this book and any belief like it.』
(Very Inspirational!) 『I recently reconnected with Karyn who I know personally through friends in Orlando and I saw she had written a book with her father. When I read the title, my first reaction was simply, "I have to have this book." The first reason was because I am a new father and want to learn from other people's experiences and the second reason was to support my friend's project. The book arrived on my doorstep this morning and I took it to work with me and I found myself not being able to put the book down. I read it on breaks at work and just finished it tonight shortly after my daughter was sleeping. The book was full of wonderful advice from both Karyn's perspective and her father's. I truly enjoyed reading about the family dynamics and often found myself relating to some of their experiences. This is a great book for adults and teenagers to read and it comes highly recommended. I hope you will find these lessons as useful as I will when it comes time to have some of the talks and moments Pat was able to share with his daughter. Congrats Pat on yet another great book that I couldn't put down, and Karyn, thanks for sharing your stories as I hope they will inspire others to live life to the fullest.』 『
When All Is Said and Done, What Will They Take Away from You?
The story you've shared for generations across the holiday table, the moment you stopped to connect as you rushed out the door, or the pickup game of ball—it's oftentimes the things we take for granted or bypass altogether in the fast pace of life.
As parents, we try to teach our children important lessons—but are usually left wondering, Is anything I'm saying getting through? As children, we tend to think our parents' advice is old school and doesn't apply to our lives. But guess what? They were listening, and it does apply.
In The Takeaway, Pat Williams, father of nineteen multicultural children and senior vice president of the Orlando Magic, and his daughter Karyn, a rising music star, remind us of twenty simple, yet essential, truths for living a happy and fulfilled life. These memorable jewels of wisdom are lessons for all time that everyone can take away and apply to their lives. Practical and profound, this straightforward book can change your life for the better!

(Delicious) 『Ivan Illich, Austrian-born U.S. sociologist wrote: "Effective health care depends on self-care..."
The book "The 20-Day Rejuvenation Diet Program" by Jeffrey S. Bland educates you to take self-care in you eating. We consist of what we eat after all, right?
The major ideas on which this book is built are: plant foods and their constituents (phytonutrients) have helth-giving properties, diet and lifestyle can help reverse the aging process, and help overcome the effects of living in a toxic world. This book is about consuming raw legumes, vegetables and fruits, but it's not vegetarian - it contains lot of delicious recipes of meat, fish and so on. The book just explains how to balance the food to get enough phytonutrients and.
The major component of the Rejuvenation Program presented in this book is the 30-day Phytonutrient Diet with daily recipes and menu specifics. if you try to follow this diet specifically as it is written, without modification, you may find it too difficult, the recipes too time-consuming, and some ingredients hard to find in your area. Just feel free to modify this diet and make sure you do not go hungry.
The book contains fairy well explanation of the human body, the digestion process and the detoxifying properties of the liver, and how to help the liver and your entire organism to be healthier. Remember that the absence of disease does not guarantee the presence of health.
It analyzes which food is good and which is bad for the body. However, you should devise your own eating style, because each person is biochemically unique and this book acknowledge this.
Personally me find the recipes of this book extraordinarily delicious. I follow the recipes regularly.
I also recommend The Liver Cleansing Diet by Sandra Cabot in addition to this book.』
(For health practitioners and those with fatigue) 『The diet is complex, both in planning, bying ingredients, and cooking. It is a part-time job you commit to for three weeks. However, if you suffer from long-term bad health and fatigue and have been shoved throughout the system and back again, it is well worth trying out the diet and the recommended antioxidant supplements. It certainly helped me. The diet is only half the book, and I strongly recommend the research part to any health practitioner or therapist. It will bring convincing enlightment, without preaching any new age stuff, and give you a new view on what health is. The psychological aspect has made its way to the institutions in psychosomatic disorders, but detoxification remains and is as important to stressed out persons. How I wish I met a physicians who had applied to these findings when I was burned out, and gotten me off pain killers and towards recovery years ago...』
(Good information -- the 20 Days are too complex) 『The book sounds great and the ideas are sound. But the menu for the 20 days is presented prior to the informational chapters on how to tailor the program for your particular needs. There is no generic guide for the development of the meals -- you can sort of intuit the overall structure. This is a real problem for anyone who won't be staying at home for the full 20 days. The menus are complex for individuals on the go, and there are no suggestions for how to handle a business night out.
But the overall concept is valid and I am enjoying better health by following the main guidelines.』

With Everyday Math, my son covered all the concepts that are in "Mastering Essential Math Skills," but he learned to use different algorithms that I know from past experience the middle school teacher will not be familiar with. For example, my son can multiply three digit numbers, but he doesn't know how to line the numbers up to the right, muliply the ones first, etc. He can divide, but not the way this book teaches. I never did quite figure out how he learned to divide with decimals, and I think his grasp on that is very weak. So I needed a book that would cover all the main topics and show him how to do it the way he will be expected to do it in 6th grade math.
I admit that we just started with this workbook, but I am thrilled to see that it covers all the topics I wanted to review, and that it shows concisely and clearly the "traditional" way to solve the problems. My son worked through the first multiplication problem and said "OK now what do I do?" I asked him what he meant, and he said "How do I get from that to the answer?" I told him that IS the answer! He was amazed that it could be so simple.
My son is only 9 (he was a young 4th grader taking 5th grade math), so I don't know about this being middle school/high school material. But I previewed the table of contents before I bought it, and could tell that it would suit my needs perfectly. Thanks!』
(Great Item) 『I really loved this book when I first opened it. I am going to be a first year teacher and we are starting the year off with a review of fractions in my algebra 1 class. This book with help me a great deal because it has an entire section on fractions. Also it has other sections that are great for Geometry and etc. I am very happy that I bought this book.』
(Perfect book for teaching yourself Math) 『This book helped me to relearn all of the basic math concepts on my own. It is an excellent teaching tool.』
(Our girls no longer complained!) 『Last year in our homeschool, we switched to "Mastering Essential Math Skills: Middle Grade/High School, and it was the best switch we could have made. Both girls were to the point of dreading math, and after changing to this program, they now looked forward to math class and could make sense of it because of the step-by-step instructions. Great for 7th-8th grades. Our 2nd daughter actually moved from 5th grade to 7th grade because this program was available.』
(For a Quick Practice - Reviews But Does not "Teach") 『a very, very, very brief review of how to do the problem is presented on each page and provides enough problems to do in 20 minutes.
Look at it in a library before spending money.
Unlike many other books of this type you are not given the right to copy the material for repeated use by a class or a family. Therefore if one student writes in the book it is all done.
As a volunteer in an alternative school and a home school parent I consider this a poor use of money.』 『THIS BOOK IS NOW AVAILABLE WITH A COMPANION DVD WITH OVER 7 HOURS OF LESSONS! Math Essentials
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Exactly what I was looking for!) 『There's nothing like having a personal tour guide to lead you through the jungle of math skills. Richard Fisher's 30 years of experience teaching math shines through in his Mastering Essential Math Skills Books 1 and 2, shedding light on the dark and daunting paths to the realm of math comprehension. Book One for Grades 4 and 5, takes us all the way from basic adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing to number theory and Algebra: effectively, concisely, and simply. I'm not a math expert but I would say both books will not only bring your student up to grade level (if they weren't there already) but, I dare say, will accelerate them. In the companion DVDs included with both books, Mr. Fisher's easy-going, encouraging manner walks us, at a comfortable pace, through the maze of math. A feature I consider ingenious is the built in speed drills on each one page lesson. It is so cleverly designed, it leaves one thinking, "why didn't I think of that?" Book Two is designated for Middle Grades and High school. It contains the same sequence of development but goes a little further into each skill giving students a more comprehensive understanding of the necessary skills to tackle Algebra I (coming soon). I plan to use Book One with my 14 year old as a review to begin with this fall before taking on Algebra second semester. After going through Mr. Fisher's Pre-Algebra Concepts book with DVD this year, my son has actually requested, nay, begged, to use Mr. Fisher's math curriculum for the remainder of his schooling! Need I say more?』
(not for all homeschoolers) 『I bought this for my 4th grade daughter (homeschooled). It did not work for us. I need a curriculum that includes explanations&instructions -I am not very good at just "winging it". In other words, there are no instructions with these lessons, so for each new skill you will need to be able to explain to your child the how/why of it all. We switched to Bob Jones instead&like it very much.』
(Great resource!) 『I am a middle school teacher in an inner city. This book has provided the extra practice that my students need! It breaks down the topics step by step and the review exercises are helpful!!!! Definitely worth the money!』
(Great book for learning math!) 『I am a self-proclaimed math illiterate and a fractions idiot. My poor teachers way-back-when used take alka-seltzer after a session and a B on a test was a chance for great praise. Now that my daughter is getting into math more complicated than adding and subtracting, I needed something to help me help her. I read this book and suddenly a lighbulb went on. I could actually understand the concept of fractions and adding and multiplying and common denominators. It had all been a murky mess before. This book is clear and concise with examples and a chance to practice. I highly recommend it!』
(Teacher's Tool) 『I use this workbook in my classroom for our daily math practice. The format provides a great way to maintain daily facts review and it ensures that you incorporate word problems regularly. Each page provides ten problems of work in one particular area, with a small reminder of the process involved. The pages are not too 'busy' or overwhelming in visual presentation. Each page also begins with a review of concepts taught previously, so that ongoing practice is incorporated. Of course, separate instruction, hands-on learning and other formats of work are essentail for rounding out the curriculum, but this is an easy format to follow for a year's focus of basic math curricula. This will be my second year using the book, and I have yet to try to 'new' edition. The older edition did have a few mistakes with problems given more than once on a page every now and then and the answer key sometimes provided wrong answers, but the students loved finding these errors! We have found as a class that the pages often take more than 20 minutes to complete. 30 minutes may be more accurate.』 『THIS BOOK IS NOW AVAILABLE WITH A COMPANION DVD WITH OVER 6 HOURS OF LESSONS! LET AMERICA'S MATH TEACHER, RICHARD W. FISHER, BE YOUR OWN PERSONAL TUTOR. Will your students be ready for algebra? Numerous math books on the market claim they can boost your math skills to peak performance. But can you stomach the tedious and boring daily drills they throw at you? Students will find the books fun and exciting, plus they produce dramatic results. Each lesson is short and concise, containing review, number fact speed drills, a helpful hints section with instruction and examples, new material, and daily problem solving. As students complete these lessons, they WILL get better at math, and have fun at the same time. Most importantly, they will enter pre-algebra and algebra I with a strong foundational background, something that is becoming a rarity. Excellent for summer.』
